Vonne Monai's Beauty, Health & Fitness Guide: "Dimples Of Venus"...

"Dimples Of Venus"...

Sacral dimples are a result of being inbred and are not sexy. They are a deformity and most likely an indicator of many other costly, inbred diseases in the person who has them!
Yuck! The media are always lying to try and force people to accept these inbred deformities.
They are usually violent retards in addition to being unattractive.

Spring Break and Bed Bugs

Spring break is starting for many students across the country. It's a popular time to go on vacation and take a break from the stress of schoolwork. Unfortunately, bed bugs never take a break. In fact, spring break is a blessing for bed bugs, as it gives them the perfect opportunity to find a new home.

Why is spring break such a good opportunity for bed bugs?

Bed bugs spread primarily by hitchhiking from household to household. This is mainly done by traveling from both parties. When you travel, you give bed bugs a chance to sneak into your clothing or belongings and spread to your unsuspecting neighbors. Because of this, it is important to learn how to protect yourself from getting bed bugs.

What can I do to protect myself from bed bugs?

There are many things that you can do to reduce your chances of bringing home bed bugs from a long trip. On one hand you can purchase helpful products, such as:

? Seat Defenders -- Seat defenders provide a barrier between you and the bugs. A seat defender can be used to cover an airplane or taxi seat. It provides coverage and protection from bed bugs and prevents them from crawling onto your clothes or belongings. ? Suitcase Encasements -- Similar to the seat defenders, a suitcase encasement protects your luggage from having bed bugs crawl into it. ? Bed Bug Luggage Spray -- Luggage spray can be used to deter bed bugs from crawling into your suitcase as well as kill any bed bugs hiding in your suitcase. ? Bed Bug Survival Guide -- The Bed Bug Survival Guide provides tons of helpful tips that can aid you in future encounters with bed bugs.

During your trip, it is important to inspect the hotel room you'll be staying in. Check the bed for signs of bed bugs such as blood stains or black fecal specks on the mattress/sheet covers. It's important to understand that even if you booked the fanciest hotel in the city, that doesn't mean you can't get bed bugs.

Lastly, when you get home make sure you DON'T just dump all your belongings on the bed and call it a day. It's extremely important to put all your belongings in the washer & dryer in order to kill any bed bugs that may have gotten into your clothes. Bed bugs can't survive in temperatures of over 120 degrees so the combination of washer and dryer is highly effective in killing bed bugs.

Even though this may seem like a lot of effort it can mean the difference between an enjoyable vacation and a bed-bug-infested nightmare. Jeff Eisenberg, CEO and President of Pest Away Exterminating, stresses education above all else when it comes to dealing with bed bugs. The more you know about bed bugs, the more you can do to protect yourself from them. For more information visit www.pestawayinc.com.

To drive infections, a hijacking virus mimics a cell's signaling system

Monday, March 26, 2012

New biological research reveals how an invading virus hijacks a cell's workings by imitating a signaling marker to defeat the body's defenses. By manipulating cell signals, the virus destroys a defensive protein designed to inhibit it. This finding, from studies in human cell cultures, may represent a broader targeting strategy used by other viruses, and may lay the scientific groundwork for developing more effective treatments for infectious diseases.

"Learning details of how cells respond to viruses helps us to understand key cellular machinery better," said study leader Matthew D. Weitzman, Ph.D., of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "This study tells us how a virus overcomes intrinsic host defenses. In this case the virus mimics signals used during normal DNA repair mechanisms."

The study team, formerly based at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, Calif., published their current findings online March 8 in Molecular Cell.

Biologists have long known that viruses hijack cellular processes to replicate themselves, while host cells have evolved intrinsic defense systems to resist viral invasion. To replicate, viruses must deliver their own DNA into a cell's nucleus, so a viral infection entails a conflict between two genomes?the DNA of the host cell versus the foreign DNA of the virus.

Viruses mount their attack by interacting with specific cell proteins as a way of penetrating the cell's defenses. "In this study, we asked how the herpes simplex virus finds the specific proteins that it interacts with," said Weitzman. "By describing the mechanism of this particular interaction between a virus and a cell protein, we have pinpointed key regulators of a cell's processes, and shed light on how a cell regulates its defenses."

This laboratory study focused on herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1), a common human virus that results in recurrent infections alternating with inactive periods. Like other viruses, HSV-1 is known to manipulate cellular processes in order to infect cells, but the specific mechanisms by which it acts on the DNA repair pathway were previously unknown.

Weitzman's study team was studying a viral protein called ICP0 that overcomes host defenses by targeting cellular proteins for destruction. They found that ICP0 exploits phosphorylation, a chemical mark that is often used in cells to promote interactions between proteins, especially as part of the cellular signaling response to DNA damage. In HSV-1 infection, the phosphorylation signal on ICP0 attracts a cellular DNA damage response protein, RNF8, which binds to the false signaling marker and is then degraded. Because RNF8 normally inhibits viral replication, its destruction leaves the cell vulnerable to HSV-1 infection, as the virus takes over the cell's machinery.

The researchers also found that ICP0 exploits the same phosphorylation signal to bind to other cellular proteins in addition to RNF8, a hint that it may play a broader role in defeating antiviral defenses and manipulating cellular machinery. Weitzman will continue to investigate HSV-1 infection in neurons and in animal models. He also plans to extend his research into other viruses, which may act on different pathways than HSV-1 does. "Ultimately," he added, "better knowledge of molecular mechanisms in infection may suggest strategies to interrupt the viral life cycle and treat infections."

Ind. Man Accused Of Stealing From Tornado Victims

WLKY.com

An Indiana man has been accused of stealing from tornado victims and pretending to be a government official.

Indiana State Police said Gerald Flint, 53, collected money and supplies intended for those affected by the March 2 tornado outbreak, but they have no idea where any of the donations went.

Police said Flint went to Clark and Scott counties to solicit donations on behalf of his organization, but they said what happened to those donations is anyone's guess.

"Anytime we have these disasters that come through, there are always people who try to come in and take advantage of the situation," said Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin.

Police said Flint went to southern Indiana communities hit by the tornadoes, asking for disaster supplies and monetary donations on behalf of the organization Volunteer Medics Worldwide. He drove a truck outfitted with his group's logo, and, according to police, told people he was working with the Department of Homeland Security.

But police said that wasn't true.

"He wasn't working with them. He wasn't affiliated with them. As a matter of fact, right now, we haven't found one legitimate organization that he was affiliated with," said Goodin.

Police said he collected an unknown amount of money and supplies, but they have no idea what happened to all of it.

"We can't account for it, and we're trying to find out the best we can where this stuff went to. And right now, we can't find it," said Goodin.

The organization Flint mentioned has an extensive website, which includes a message stating Volunteer Medics Worldwide never asks for money or seeks donations.

The website also said the group has "halted all action to assist anyone in the Henryville, Ind., area due to the actions of those who have taken money and used fraud tactics during this storm recovery period."

"It upsets me, but with human nature being the way it is, you can expect a few people to be like that," said Jack Myers, whose home was damaged by a tornado.

Myers said dozens of volunteers helped him clean up his Henryville home. He doesn't want one case to taint all of their efforts.

"Ninety-nine percent of the people have been very honest, very helpful," said Myers.

Police have a message for those who aren't.

"If you're not legitimate and you're doing wrong, you're going to end up like this guy," said Goodin.

Flint is listed as the contact on Volunteer Medics Worldwide's website, and a message left with him Thursday was not returned.

He has been arrested and was charged with theft, impersonating a public servant and possession of a legend drug, because police said he was also caught with antibiotics he didn't have a prescription for.

Indiana State Police are asking anyone who may have given money or supplies to Volunteer Medics Worldwide or to Flint to call them at 812-246-5424.

Analysis: Why N. Korea's planned rocket test matters

KCNA via EPA

This handout photo released by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency on April 8, 2009 shows the launch of the country's Unha-2 rocket.

By The Associated Press

ANALYSIS

SEOUL, South Korea -- North Korea may have the bomb, but it hasn't perfected ways to put one onto a missile that could strike faraway enemies like the United States.

This is why Pyongyang's announcement that it will launch a satellite on a long-range rocket next month is drawing so much attention: Washington says North Korea uses these launches as cover for testing missile systems for nuclear weapons that could target Alaska and beyond.

Although North Korea isn't on the official agenda of next week's Nuclear Security Summit in the South Korean capital, here's a look at why the launch will be a major point of discussion when President Barack Obama and other world leaders gather in Seoul:

THE HISTORY
North Korea has spent decades trying to perfect a multistage, long-range rocket.

Next month's launch ? set to happen around the April 15 centennial of the birth of founder Kim Il Sung ? would be the fourth of its kind since 1998, when Pyongyang sent a long-range rocket hurtling over Japan.

A 2006 test was considered a failure, but North Korea grabbed attention shortly after with its first nuclear test blast. The U.N. Security Council later banned North Korea from any further nuclear or ballistic missile testing.

How muscle cars help US spy on North Korea

North Korea's third launch, in 2009, was considered a partial success, with two of the three stages pushing the rocket over the Pacific. The third stage failed, and, despite North Korea's claims of success, no satellite was put into orbit, the U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command said.

That test was condemned by the U.N. Security Council. Pyongyang protested that it was testing satellite technology for peaceful purposes. It subsequently abandoned six-nation nuclear disarmament talks and, weeks later, carried out a second nuclear test.

The next year saw violence blamed on North Korea that killed 50 South Koreans, including an attack on a warship and the North's shelling of a front-line island.

THE TECHNOLOGY
Experts and governments will scrutinize next month's launch of what the North's state media call an Unha-3 rocket, presumably the next version of the Unha-2 rocket used in the 2009 test.

Unha-2 represented a significant advancement over previous rockets, according to an analysis written by missile experts David Wright and Theodore Postol. It was roughly 100 feet long and may have been designed around Soviet missile components, the writers said.

Next month's rocket is set to fire from a new site on the North's west coast, according to GeoEye and Google Earth satellite imagery posted by Tim Brown, an analyst for GlobalSecurity.org. The Tongchang-ri site is about 35 miles from the Chinese border city of Dandong, across the Yalu River from North Korea.

Obama to visit Korea DMZ ahead of nuclear summit

Positioned only 45 miles from the North's main Yongbyon nuclear complex, it has better roads and facilities, and allows a southerly flight path that keeps the rocket from flying over other countries, according to Wright, technical researcher at the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Park Chul-Hung / AP

South Korean Army K-9 self-propelled howitzers fire during an exercise in Paju, South Korea, on Thursday.

The new rocket will probably have better boosters and engines ? and might even succeed in putting a satellite into space if it contains one, said Sohn Young-hwan, a South Korean rocket scientist who heads the privately funded Institute of Technology and Management Analysis in Seoul.

North Korea may have loaded the rocket's third stage with more fuel to increase capability, Wright said by email, part of improvements that "would translate to greater range if that technology was used to build a long-range ballistic missile."

North Korea says the launch is meant to contribute to "international trust and cooperation in the field of space scientific researches."

But because ballistic missiles and rockets in satellite launches "share the same bodies, engines, launch sites and other development processes, they are intricately linked," said Mark Fitzpatrick, an analyst at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

AP

News of the North Korean leader's death sparks tears from his followers and concerns around the world as power is handed over to his successor.

THE HURDLES
So far, Pyongyang can only deliver a nuclear bomb "by boat, by van or by airplane, not by missile," said Hecker, the nuclear scientist.

After half a century of persistence, North Korea is thought to have a fairly small nuclear arsenal.

While it has enough plutonium for about four to eight "simple" bombs similar to what the U.S. dropped on Nagasaki in 1945, Hecker estimates, it doesn't yet appear to have the ability to make bombs small enough to mount on a missile.

Miniaturized warheads would require more nuclear tests, and Hecker warns that if North Korea breaks its nuclear test moratorium, "it will almost certainly be a test of a miniaturized design."

THE DIPLOMACY
Governments and experts are worried that a new rocket launch will spur a chain of events that will mirror 2009, resulting in a breakdown of diplomacy, another nuclear test and soaring tensions, threats and bloodshed.

The United States has warned the launch would jeopardize a diplomatic deal settled last month that would ship U.S. food aid to the impoverished North in exchange for a moratorium on missile and nuclear tests, as well as a suspension of nuclear work at Yongbyon.

Skepticism surrounds North Korea's agreement to halt uranium enrichment and long-range missile tests, in exchange for U.S. food aid. Author Gordon Chang discusses.

U.S. officials will be pushing China to pressure its ally Pyongyang, and President Barack Obama is expected to raise the issue during a key meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao on the nuclear summit's sidelines. There could also be meetings among the U.S. and its Asian allies, Japan and South Korea.

Hecker says a launch "makes a mockery" of the U.S.-North Korea nuclear deal.

"You use the same technology in long-range rockets that you do in long-range missiles," he said. "The only difference is what you put on top."

Making the grade: Boise State football players work out for NFL scouts

It only looked like Boise State football coach Chris Petersen was running the passing drills Thursday for pro day at the Caven-Williams Sports Complex, where scouts and coaches representing 28 NFL teams evaluated last year?s seniors.

Petersen held a script that indicated the order in which quarterback Kellen Moore would make each throw, designed to give the one wide receiver, one tight end and one tailback available ample rest.

But Petersen was not the script?s author.

?Kellen got it just right,? Petersen said. ?As usual, he put together a great script.?

And Moore executed well, too.

He completed 52-of-53 passes to all parts of the field, showing impressive velocity, accuracy and timing. The drills are staged with no defenders.

Moore looked better than at the Senior Bowl or NFL Scouting Combine, where he worked with unfamiliar receivers.

?A couple scouts there who are very much anti-Kellen Moore guys, who don?t see any way his body type can last in the NFL, even those guys said, ?Wow, that was a good workout,? ? an NFL scout told the Idaho Statesman.

Moore was more impressive at his pro day than Arizona?s Nick Foles or San Diego State?s Ryan Lindley, the scout said. Those quarterbacks are competing with Moore for draft positioning and many analysts rate them higher because of their size.

?A lot of scouts felt Kellen?s individual workout was better than any quarterback workout out West this year,? the scout said, noting that the scouts in Boise didn?t get to see Stanford?s Andrew Luck throw Thursday.

Moore?s only miss was on the fourth throw of the workout, an out-and-up down the sideline to wide receiver Tyler Shoemaker. The ball was barely overthrown.

He frequently hit receivers in stride as they came out of breaks and drew cheers from his teammates as he hit several throws of 45 to 50 yards.

?The impressive thing about Kellen is he threw very well in drills, but that?s not where he shines. He shines when he plays,? Petersen said. ?To me, that just looked like him day in and day out. I thought he did well, but the best of Kellen is when he plays the game.?

Moore threw primarily to Shoemaker, tight end Kyle Efaw and tailback Doug Martin. Linebacker Aaron Tevis ran a few routes as a fullback. The receivers lined up downfield for some of the routes to limit their running.

?Our routine was really dialed in with Kellen,? Shoemaker said. ?Kellen was looking good. The ball was coming in nice and hot, so it was easy to catch.?

Said Moore: ?Just another chance to get out there and throw the ball around a little bit. Obviously this one you?re very comfortable with your guys, so it felt pretty easy.?

15 players work out

The group included six players who participated in the NFL Scouting Combine last month in Indianapolis and nine who didn?t. Offensive lineman Nate Potter, who went to the combine, didn?t participate in pro day because of a muscle strain. He said it was a precautionary move.

The full list of participants: defensive linemen Chase Baker, Billy Winn, Shea McClellin, Tyrone Crawford and Jarrell Root; linebackers Byron Hout and Aaron Tevis; safeties George Iloka, Cedric Febis and Travis Stanaway; offensive lineman Chuck Hayes; Moore; Martin; Shoemaker and Efaw.

Shoemaker climbs

Shoemaker didn't have any drops and posted strong numbers throughout the athletic testing. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds and jumped 37 inches in the vertical. Only 10 receivers ran faster 40s at the combine.

?He probably helped himself the most,? the scout said. ?He may have worked himself into a late draft pick, where most people thought he was a free agent before.?

Shoemaker, a former walk-on, played his way onto teams? radar last season with a school-record 16 touchdown catches.

?You have to kind of tack that pro day at the end (of a good senior year) to really prove yourself,? he said.

Winn improves

Winn ran the 40-yard dash in 4.85 seconds twice. Some scouts timed him as fast as 4.82. He ran the 40 in 5.00 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Winn also performed well in drills.

?Billy looked a lot better than he?s looked since the season ended,? the scout said. ?? I thought he struggled at the Senior Bowl and struggled at the combine. He looked like the explosive athlete you expected to see today.?

Crawford faster, too

Defensive end Tyrone Crawford also helped himself. He weighed in at 282 pounds, 7 pounds heavier than at the combine, and ran a 4.80 40. He ran 4.89 in Indianapolis ? his slowest ever.

?I had to come in here and try to hit the 4.7,? he said.

Baker, Febis show well

Baker and Febis likely will need opportunities as free agents.

Baker, a 292-pound tackle, posted a 30-inch vertical jump and 8-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He ran the 40 in 5.36 seconds.

?I liked my start on my 40,? he said. ?Unfortunately, I?ve got the short legs syndrome going on, so I don?t know how the end of that went. ? The jumping I was very excited about. Good day. I?m stoked.?

Febis, a one-year starter, ran the 40 in 4.70 seconds and was tops among those participating in the broad jump (10-4) and three-cone drill (6.79 seconds). He also had a 36-inch vertical. All three of those numbers would have ranked in the top six among safeties at the combine.

Growing Moore?

Moore measured at 6-foot and 1/8 inch. He was 5-11 7/8 at the Senior Bowl and 6-0 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

28 teams on hand

Twenty-eight NFL teams, three CFL teams and two Arena teams were represented at pro day. The Bengals sent head coach Marvin Lewis, offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and defensive line coach Jay Hayes to Boise. Lewis was the only head coach in town.

Bengals want closer look

Lewis said it?s important for the coaching staff to get an up-close look at draft prospects. He attends four or five pro days each year.

?We try to let our coaches go out and see the players and I try to go out where there are players on both sides of the football that we have an interest in,? he said. ?We want our coaches to see the guys work and sweat. That?s important to see them compete in these environments because we don?t get to see them practice in the fall. ? Just watch them, watch them interact with their teammates, watch them interact with their coaches, with the other people, see what kind of person he really is.?

He likes what he sees from the Broncos on video and is impressed with the way the coaches develop talent.

?The players are disciplined,? Lewis said. ?They?re great workers. You turn on the tape and it?s like, hmm. They run to the ball, they chase the ball hard and they play hard. They play great sound football. As coaches that?s what attracted us. That?s why it?s a good visit for me. I wanted to come and see the guys work out first hand.?

New scooter set for parade patrol

By CARL ORTH | The Suncoast News

Crowds during the Chasco Fiesta street parade this weekend will see a new type of police vehicle the city intends to buy.

New Port Richey police have enlisted a Dade City officer to help with crowd control on a T3 Personal Electric Mobility Vehicle, owned by the Dade City Police Department. The electric-powered stand-up people-mover is similar to a Segway but is equipped with a third wheel, for better stability.

"He will go up and down the route and will be pretty visible" during the Saturday parade, New Port Richey Police Chief James Steffens said in an email. "People will get to see that one [T3] in action."

The city plans to order its own T3 vehicles soon.

"We look forward to having ours in operation in the next two months," Steffens said.

The Rotary Club of New Port Richey is raising funds to help buy two units, City Manager John Schneiger said.

The club has scheduled an April 13 benefit at the Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave., to raise money for the purchase.

Rotary member and former New Port Richey mayor Scott McPherson is leading the effort to raise $20,000 for the T3 vehicles.

More than $17,000 already has been raised, McPherson said. He plans to deliver the T3 vehicles in time for the banquet.

"Given the budget problems that are confronting cities across the country, including New Port Richey, [Rotary President] Don Cadle wanted to do this fundraiser to help the downtown, and specifically law enforcement," McPherson said in an email.

The three-wheel scooters can reach speeds of 20 mph, according to manufacturer T3 Motion, based in Costa Mesa, Calif. The vehicle operates on about 10 cents worth of electricity per day. The electric motor delivers the equivalent of more than 500 mpg.

The T3 can be outfitted with police lights and sirens for law enforcement and can carry as much as 450 pounds.

The T3 will give police officers easy access around public gatherings downtown, Rotary officials said.

Dade City bought its T3, along with a specially equipped electric cart, in 2008, as gas prices were surging. The police department has used it for regular patrol duty and also for special events, such as the Dade City Christmas Parade and the Kumquat Festival. Police officers also use the scooter on the city's bike trail.

Multiple sclerosis is interesting to me because I have known several people ? friends ? who have been afflicted with the disease. I had hoped that research in the subject would reveal to me that progress was being toward finding a cure. Unfortunately, that is only partially true. The Mayo Clinic website that I visited lists MS as an incurable disease, though there are now medicines that will delay its progress.

That is very important because, through watching my friends with it, it is clear that it is a progressive disease and, from all accounts, irreversible. These observations were confirmed by my research. The Mayo website states: ?There?s no cure for multiple sclerosis. However, treatments can help modify and slow the course of the disease and treat symptoms.?

Multiple sclerosis is a debilitating disease with the following symptoms: numbness of limbs, loss of vision ? especially in one eye ? sometimes with pain in the eye, tingling or pain in parts of the body, tremors, lack of coordination, difficulty walking, fatigue and dizziness.

These symptoms result, according to the Mayo Clinic report, when ?the body?s immune system attacks its own tissue?.this process destroys myelin ? the fatty substance that coats and protects the nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. When myelin is damaged, the messages that travel along that nerve may be slowed or blocked?.

The disease has been inflicted on between 250 thousand and 350 thousand Americans, according to the report. Most people are diagnosed with MS between the ages of twenty and fort, although, occasionally, it has attacked some very young and some older people. Interesting facts are that whites are twice as likely to have the disease as other races and women are twice as likely as men.

I have first hand evidence on how the disease can progress. My dear friend was in her late twenties when I first met her thirteen years ago. She had been diagnosed just a couple of years before. At that time she was coping with two young sons and experiencing a few symptoms: numbness in her joints and occasional difficulty with her limbs. I have watched her steadily decline, until now she is confined to a wheelchair. Much to her credit, she brings herself to school here at Forest Park Community College and deals quite well with two teenage sons.

Another victim of multiple sclerosis that I know is a man in his fifties that was diagnosed over thirty years ago. Although he walks with a cane, he works twenty hours a week as a checker at a grocery store. Clearly, all victims are not affected in the same way and to the same degree.

Perhaps, if the causes of the decease were known, it would be possible to find a cure or, at least, to design protective measures against it. The Mayo report states: ?Doctors and researchers don?t understand why multiple sclerosis develops in some people and not in others. A combination of factors ranging from genetics to nutrition and infection may play a part.?

Because of my personal interest in this disease, I wanted to find what progress has been made toward finding a cure and pin-pointing the cause. I went to the NIH site and found that there has been some movement in the last decade, although primarily in the area of finding new tools to aid in finding cures rather than in finding the cures themselves. It says: ?New tools, such as MRI have redefined the natural history of MS and are proving invaluable in monitoring disease activity.?

Scientists are now able to visualize and follow the development of MS lesions in the brain and spinal cord?Other tools have been found that make the painstaking work of teasing out the disease?s genetic secrets possible.

Treatments have been found that may make it possible to slow the development of the disease and to treat the symptoms. Let us hope the next decade will find a real cure. The least we can hope for is that science will discover the cause or causes of MS so that we learn what we must do to prevent this terrible affliction from attacking us.

Liberals need an aggressive communications strategy ? Politics ...

The only way to stop the Conservative attack machine is to hit it back, hard. ?This means creating an attack ad that will register with viewers, something that the Liberals have not been very effective at.

While it is good to see the quick response from Rae, it will probably not be effective, he mentions many interesting facts to counter the attacks, but nothing that could fit into a sound bite, which is what we need. ?We also know that the anti-Rae ads will be played repeatedly. ?Only a true attack ad counts as a response. ?Rae could have said, very clearly: ?Stephen Harper is the worst manager of taxpayer money and the economy that Canada has ever seen. ?Following this with some of the many facts that speak to this truth.

The Conservatives understand that perception is reality and they create the reality they want. ?I predicted the Conservative strategy of using the ?coalition straw-issue? in the last campaign. ?Mainly because you could see it coming from a mile away. ?The Conservatives are incredibly organized and effective, creating simple, adolescent talking points and sticking to them. ?How many times did you hear the phrase, ?reckless coalition? one year ago? ?Not just from Harper, but Baird, Clement, every libertarian cowboy and Mike Harris re-tread were speaking the talking points, getting their reality established. ?All of the pundits were saying how ridiculous it was at the outset of the campaign and that it couldn?t last as a strategy. ?Liberals only made it worse by responding in a way that reinforced the Conservative lie: that somehow coalition governments are bad. ?In parliamentary democracy coalitions are very common and often more representative than a one party government.

The Liberal response to these latest ads need to be a one issue response: financial incompetence; trust; the use of attack ads outside an election campaign, take your pick. ?Not only this but every Liberal must repeat the simple claim at the beginning of everything they say to the media, in the house, etc. ?Suppose a Liberal MP were asked about the government?s inaccuracies in the F-35 estimates, they would respond like this: ?We all know that the Harper Conservatives are the worst managers of taxpayer dollars and the economy we have ever seen in Canada, it should not surprise us that they have gotten the figures wrong when it comes to these jet fighters...? ?When I say repeat, I mean repeat, over and over again, for months, years. ?If you doubt that this would work see the wreckage of Dion and Ignatieff.

Liberals never were able to define the narrative in 2011. ?Can they ever do it? ?Survival depends on it.

Need Internet Business Consulting For Going Big | Domain Names ...

Mark was looking for some good internet business consulting agency which could handle his problem swiftly and efficiently. Mark had a really good idea of online business which he wanted to take one step further. He came up with this idea when he was searching for a book in the library of his college. He wondered if a precise and accurate database of e-books was present online so that students would find it easier to search for them. Of course, Mark realized that cataloguing every book on the worldwide web was not possible. However, an effort could be made to catalogue the scholarly publications from authors and lecturers around the world. He had turned this concept into reality by opening up a blog and experimenting. He soon found that his idea was gaining popularity. Now, he wanted to take it a step further. Thus he was looking for an internet business consulting agency which could help him.

Buying Internet Advertising

Internet advertising is a very broad term which encompasses hundreds of different methods, all designed to get you traffic and customers. There are many places that you can buy internet advertising: any of the search engines (with Pay Per Click ? PPC ? Advertising), on business websites that attract similar customers to your business, in E zines (online magazines), on paid classified advertising sites, and more.

Sometimes you don?t even need to buy internet advertising. You can do it for free on the social networking sites, forums that are relevant to your business or products/services or through article marketing.

But before you start advertising for free or otherwise, you need to first figure out who you are advertising to and what they are looking for. The more specific you can get about this, the more effective your advertising will be so you need to put in quite a bit of thought and research into this. Where can you find what people are looking for? One of the easiest ways is to do some keyword research. You can use many of the free keyword research tools to see exactly what people in your business area are typing into the search engines. You can then use these keywords in many of your online marketing and advertisements.

You can then go about designing your own internet advertising campaign or you can choose an agency or service to do one for you. Doing it on your own when first starting out may be long and tedious, but hiring someone to do the work for you can be expensive. If you decide to pay an agency, do some research on which one fits your needs best first. Also, it?s better if you can find someone who will actually explain their processes and methods to you?not a company that just takes care of it all for you. This is how you can start learning to make your ads more effective as well.

PPC ads are one form of paid online advertising and perhaps the most popular. These are the ads that you see on the right-hand side of your computer screen when you click a term in your search engine browser. The most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN, but there are hundreds more out there. With PPC advertising, you create an advertisement based on a keyword or keywords that people are searching for on the internet (after you?ve done your keyword research). You then pay the search engine each time someone clicks on your advertisement.

With E zine advertising, you choose an e zine that fits your target market and place ads within its newsletters. The prices of these ads depend on the size and quality of the e zine subscriber list.

Many business websites grant you the possibility to advertise on their sites as well. Again, prices here will vary.

When you buy internet advertising, you must also make sure that you are tracking which ads work and which ones don?t. This is the only way you can improve your traffic and conversions.

Bigham would use 'the crowd' to help people with disabilities

Computer Science Professor Jeffrey Bigham has won a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award for his proposal, "Closed-Loop Crowd Support of People with Disabilities."

Bigham describes his work at the University of Rochester as being "at the intersection of human-computer interaction, human computation, and artificial intelligence," with a focus on developing innovative technologies that serve people with disabilities. His NSF proposal would enable a dynamic group of people on the web ("the crowd") to work collectively to help those who are visually impaired or have other disabilities.

For example, a person who is blind or deaf may be in need of directions, but other people are not always available to lend a hand. The challenge for Bigham is how to develop an interactive system that provides high-quality feedback in real-time while compensating for unreliable individuals and constant turnover in the crowd.

Last year, Bigham released his VizWiz application, which allows people who are blind to take pictures with their iPhones and ask questions, then quickly (in under a minute) receive responses from the crowd. In that way, the blind person in need of directions can be told where he or she is located and how to get to a destination.

"While VizWiz works quickly," said Bigham, "it doesn't provide the real-time feedback loop necessary for many real-world tasks."

The NSF has awarded Bigham $500,000 under the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program to carry out the research for his proposal over the next five years.

The CAREER awards are given "in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations," according to the NSF program guidelines.

"The NSF award is designed to help launch the careers of young researchers," said Henry Kautz, Computer Science Chair at the University. "It's confirmation that Bigham is an up-and-coming leader in the field of human-computer interaction and web cloud computing."

Bigham did undergraduate work at Princeton University and earned both his master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He came to the University of Rochester as an assistant professor in July 2009.

Pact sets China's filmmakers fighting for silver screens

BEIJING (Reuters) - Underdogs fighting off a foreign invasion or small-time hopefuls competing against all odds for the spotlight.

Those could be plot lines for Hollywood scripts - or the real world plight of China's movie producers, now that Beijing has approved imports of a new wave of American blockbusters.

A deal hammered out during Vice President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States last month paved the way for the import of 14 premium format films, such as IMAX or 3D, which will be exempt from China's annual quota of 20 foreign films per year.

That pleased U.S. trade officials, who were pushing China for concessions after winning a 2009 World Trade Organization dispute dealing partly with film access.

But while Chinese theatre owners are likely to welcome the opportunity to fill more seats by screening Hollywood spectacles, the deal means more competition for China's already out-gunned directors and producers on silver screens in their own country.

"The imports of these movies, I believe, will be a huge shock to Chinese filmmakers," said Qin Hong, the chairman of Stellar Megamedia, a major Chinese film producer and cinema owner.

Qin said the deal could make it very difficult for China's small film producers to survive and consolidate industry resources into the hands of a few major film conglomerates.

China was more than a year behind schedule in opening access to U.S. films following the WTO ruling, something of an outlier for China, which has complied closely with the global trade body's decisions.

The sluggish resolution also took a personal visit by Xi, who is widely expected to assume China's presidency for the next decade, underscoring the difficulties in tense U.S.-China trade relations heightened by a tepid global economy and sharpened rhetoric from U.S. politicians in an election season.

China's film industry has been growing rapidly, with box office revenues jumping more than 25 percent annually over the past decade, according to state media.

But for all the films Chinese producers are cranking out, their pull at Chinese box offices, like their budgets, often pale in comparison to big Hollywood features.

In 2011, ticket sales topped 13 billion yuan ($2.1 billion), about a fifth of U.S. theatre revenues. But almost half of that came from showings of 50 foreign films.

The rest was split among China's 791 domestic productions, the head of China's film and television watchdog said, according to state media.

SILVER SCREEN LINING

Industry experts say Hollywood's looming shadow means Chinese producers will need to focus on quality over quantity if they are going to elevate their appeal to a Chinese audience.

That sentiment was echoed by Chinese director Zhang Yimou last week in a statement to media during the annual session of China's parliamentary advisory body, of which he is a member.

But even as one of China's most celebrated directors, Zhang's movies are out-performed.

His "Flowers of War" was China's top earning domestic film last year, pulling in about $74 million. That is a far cry from the country's 2011 box office favorite, the third installment of Hollywood's Transformers series -- which raked in almost $174 million, according to Artisan Gateway, a Shanghai-based Asian film consultancy.

Competing on the grounds of good scripts and quality acting is one thing, but adding the gloss and sheen of a big production requires budget and technical expertise that China currently lacks.

Christopher Bremble, who heads Beijing-based special effects firm Base-FX, said China's movie industry is playing catch-up, and certain fields, such as special effects, lag 15 years or more behind Hollywood.

Still, Bremble said China is a country of fast learners and that the new film deal could be a silver lining to spur higher quality domestic movies.

"There was a time that 'made in China' meant not very good. Now, of course, 'made in China' means iPads, iPhones, high-tech," he said, noting that the film industry is going through a similar upgrade.

A larger Hollywood footprint in China could also mean more partnership opportunities for Chinese film and production companies down the road.

Qin, of Stellar Multimedia, said film producers thanked the government for its help in resisting Hollywood's drive into the market after China joined the WTO, but that the movie deal marked an "appropriate opening", one that ultimately was needed to drive quality and creativity.

"We can't forever exist under a protective umbrella. We need to develop and expand on our own," he said.
